Former Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach says: “Nobody has helped me more in the music industry than Axl Rose. Everybody has all these theories as to why he acts the way he acts. And there’s no big mystery. He tells me the source of all of the insanity — it’s his voice. It’s his job to sing like that, and sometimes that sound is hard for him. And a lot of singers, you know… To sing in that range is just not an easy thing to do. And he does what he can, and if it takes him forty-five more minutes to warm up his pipes so he can sing ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’… I mean, you drive around in your car and put on GUNS N’ ROSES and just go for it. [Laughs]”

LA Guns guitarist Tracii Guns (a former bandmate of Tracii’s in the pre-GN’R outfit HOLLYWOOD ROSE and the very early days of GUNS N’ ROSES) said: “I kind of equate Axl almost to a Jim Morrison type — almost. [But] they’re obviously very different. The thing about [Axl] is that he wants to do it his own way. He goes by his gut and he has a weird spiritual thing with psychics. In his mind, he’s expanded to a higher level.”
“I think if [Axl] had a solid partner — music partner — in his life that not only that he listened to but somebody that he truly respected musically and somebody that he had a great time with and somebody he believed in, I think that it could go more the way of the rock that the fan base would prefer, I think. But you can’t do it on your own and a lot of people in Axl’s position think they can do it on their own. And that’s the only thing I can criticize about him is that he doesn’t have that great partner. Elton John’s got a partner, McCartney’s got a partner, Lady Gaga’s got a partner, everybody’s got a partner. I’ve got Jizzy [Pearl, LA Guns singer] and Jizzy’s got me. And that’s the only thing missing from Axl’s life — a great partner.”

Theres merit in what Tracii Guns said. Axl used to have Izzy and the rest of the band would deal with him through Izzy. As soon as Izzy left, there was no one to keep Axl in line.
If it takes Axl more than 45 minutes to warm up his voice, then why doesn’t he start his warm up more than 45 minutes before stage time?
RIP Guns N’ Roses. You were great but not anymore.

@Ben – I was cynical too when I saw it on the screens at Reading, but then he did actually stray from it quite alot during the show.
Metal Hammer this is cheap and pathetic. The comments from Axl’s peers are not derogatory at all. You are as sad as a tabloid, making up headlines and trying to create some news where there is none.
Maybe you’d all rather go listen to some tuneless shouty “whatever-core” crap?

some interesting words, but what’s wrong with the voice exactly? Listening to the Live Era cd it doesn’t sound too different to me….. still unmistakeably Axl Rose. And this is a video of the last song from the night remember – what’s the problem?

Guns N Roses ended when Slash and Co parted ways with Axel. The band in that Vid should be renamed Axel Rose’s Ego… Guns N Roses are dead and Axel is beyond a joke now. I saw them at Download and they were terrible.
I hope Axel has a full on proper breakdown followed by an epiphany and tries to repair the damage he has done and reconcile with Slash and reform the G’N'R we all know and love.
