Metal Hammer spoke to Johan Hegg of Swedish Viking-Metallers Amon Amarth before their London show at the Forum, and he gave us his ‘Top 5 Tracks of the Moment’.

Metal Hammer caught up with former cover-stars Amon Amarth at their London show this week and vocalist, Johan Hegg, gave us his Top 5 favourite bands to listen to whilst on the tour bus!

1. ZZ Top – La Grange

“Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of ZZ Top’s early stuff. One of my favourite songs is ‘La Grange’. Old, dirty ZZ Top-style Blues. I kinda like that shit.”

2. AC/DC – Sin City

“I’m actually reading an AC/DC book. [Black Ice] is not as strong as the older stuff – It has its moments. I mean, it’s always AC/DC, there’s always going to be something you like, but I still prefer the older stuff and the stuff I grew up with which is mainly the 70’s albums. Like ‘Powerage’, ‘Sin City’ is one of my favourites from that album.”

3. Obituary – Slowly We Rot

“This is nothing I really listen to on the tour bus but it’s a song that I really enjoy listening to because it’s old-school, it’s actually from Obituary … ‘Slowly We Rot’. It’s one of the classics. I try to keep an eye on the bands on this tour [Full of Hate 2009 Tour] and Obituary are on right before us so it’s easy to take a peek whilst you’re preparing.”

4. Rob Zombie – Iron Head

“I bought a Rob Zombie album the other day that I’ve always been meaning to get… ‘The Sinister Urge’. I haven’t listened to White Zombie for a long time but this album’s great.”

5. Metallica – Something from Death Magnetic.

“I’ve been listening a bit to the new Metallica album. I think it’s quite OK, it’s the best they’ve done since ‘…And Justice For All’. There are some tracks that are really good, but I don’t remember any titles from that album!”

A haw haw haw haw. It’s nice to see they’ve got a little diversity going in their musical preferences. From blues to death metal, not bad…
