Hammerfest: Evile
British thrash metallers make a statement of intent at Hammerfest.
First up, it’s easy to dismiss Evile. They sound a little bit like Slayer in the same way that Airbourne are slightly reminiscent of Acca Dacca, but trotting out some brand new material it sounds as though special things are afoot for the British thrashers. At the very least, they’ve definitely added an extra dimension to their sound in terms of dynamics and diversity.
I must confess, I’ve not seen the boys since they played our Get In The Ring event and at that point, it seemed like there was plenty of sizzle and no steak. That they were able to put on a show that didn’t feel contrived or like a band putting on a thrash-by-numbers show, makes one remember that this is still a band in their infancy and that there’s still time for them to mix it up with the big boys.
On tonight’s evidence, they could be throwing the gauntlet down at the best of them very soon indeed.

Evile are excellent, they rocked Sheffield Corporation on Wednesday amongst some shocking support (not including Mutant who are hilarious)
If they are the future of British thrash then im looking forward to the crop of bands that will follow them
They’re a mighty fine young band alright.
