Maiden deserved to win. They’re the full package, great songs, remarkable musicianship, good blokes and exceptional live show. If not that, they flew a 757 instead of a tour bus. That’s pure win.

Maiden are easily my favourite band, but Sabbath deserved to win, even just for being the grandfathers of Modern metal.

I honestly like Maiden than Sabbath but Sabbath should have won, they´re the fathers of metal, so we wouldnt have any metal band withou them. There´s no a metal band more important than Sabbath, I agree they´re the biggest TRUE metal band (metallica is not TRUE) but we wouldn´t have Maiden without Sabbath.

They´re not really connected with the metalheads. I mean they ´ve got maybe the best 4 thrash metal albums you can find, but then (after and justice), as we all know, they started to take care more about being on MTV, becoming more famous, etc. So they changed their sound, their image and eventually their audience. In some way they betrayed their true fans, nowadays they´re the metal band that non-metalheads listen (it´s quite common to find a “metallica” fan who doesn´t know who´s Cliff Burton or Dave Mustaine and thinks that Kirk Hammet is the greatest virtuoso in the world). I love Metallica but that´s why I cannot consider them a true metal band.

Crippler – I think you’re wrong. I think what you’re missing is the fact that they became famous BECAUSE of those albums. Those albums gained them a huge fanbase and I think what the problem is, is that those fans feel betrayed by Metallica for growing as a band and wanting to play something different, to experiment and play what they want to, rather than doing what Slayer have and effectively playing the same stuff for nearly 30 years. Don’t get me wrong, I dig Slayer, but I love Metallica. I think it’s unfair to call them not true metal because people who aren’t into metal can listen to them. That’s a good thing! That’s called breaking down barriers! Seriously, people need to stop thinking of metal as an island where we need to isolate ourselves from everything else and open their fucking eyes. In a world where there’s so much utter trash to listen to, the latest x-factor trash and the whole world talking about who’s been voted out, people should concentrate on a band who can actually play their instruments and, oh fuck it, I’m bored of having this same argument with the world. Everybody, hate Metallica all you like, in the end, it’s you that loses out.

Oh and the “not connected with the metalheads” is utter tripe. They give everything to their fans. Regular free stuff like gear, shows, downloads and they always have time for them. When was the last time Maiden put on a show and charged a fiver to get in?

Iron Maiden deserves this award. I’m not gonna write crap like “If there was no IRon Maiden there would be no metallica.” But the truth is Iron Maiden pioneered Metal. They took it to the next level. For that, they deserve this award just as much as Sabbath does.
