New Kreator Album: First Impression

German thrash legends Kreator release a new studio album, likely to be titled ‘Hordes Of Chaos’, via SPV Records in January. Metal Hammer’s Dave Ling was among the first journalists to hear its nine songs – ten if you include a two-parter that appears towards the album’s end – when guitarist/frontman/songwriter Mille Petrozza flew into London to approve the final mix-down, which was handled by Colin Richardson (Machine Head/Napalm Death/Slipknot/Carcass). Basic production had taken place during the summer at Titonus studios in Berlin with producer Moses Schneider.

‘Hordes Of Chaos’ continues down the path of 2005’s ‘Enemy Of God’ and 2001’s ‘Violent Revolution’, making the band’s ‘experimental’ albums of the 1990s sound pretty risible. It’s loud, fast and crushingly brutal. Stand-out tracks include the title song, plus ‘War Curse’, ‘Destroy What Destroys You’, ‘Radical Resistance’, ‘Absolute Misanthropy’ and the balls-out, 100-MPH thrash of ‘Demon Prince’ which brings the album to a breathless close.

No exaggeration, listening to this album leaves you feeling as though you’ve been run over by a Panzer tank.

Kreator are expected to unleash their new album in January 2009.
