Sonisphere Announcement: Hammer’s Guess
Beez & Gill do some investigative journalism (aka gobbing off at each other in the Hammer office) and get to the bottom of who could be part of Sonisphere’s forthcoming massive announcement. Get your Sonisphere tickets here!
Gill and myself love to play detective around the Metal Hammer office. Well, we played Twister once but nobody enjoyed that. Anyway, I digress. We’ve been thinking long and hard about Mr Stuart Galbraith’s forthcoming major Sonisphere announcement.
Who could be on there? Seriously man, who can it be!? Alright, here’s what we’re thinking. We’re sticking with Jane’s Addiction. Let’s face it, they’re playing everything else that NIN are doing so we’re going to go out on a limb and say that we think they’re going to be part of Sonisphere.
Another bit of pure speculation but at Testament’s absolutely monu-fucking-mental (emphasis on the mental) Metal Hammer sponsored One Night Only show at Islington Academy, the band said they’d be returning in July/Sugust. y’know, we’re just saying Sonisphere’s in August.
Megadeth. What about Megadeth? They’re not up to anything just yet. The chances are that they’re going to be still working on their new album but they’re a major act that have got to be a possibility.
Nightwish. How’s about a little gothic thunder for your festival? The Finnish gothmeister’s play in Norway on June 18th and August 8th at the M’eraluna Festival with nothing in between. Perhaps perfect for a little Sonisphere love? You never know.
Let’s throw some legends into the equation. Who’s got an amazing album coming out, who were rumoured to be doing Download earlier in the year and are called Heaven And Hell? That’s right! Heaven And Hell. they play Wacken on July 30th and Machine Head and Airbourne.
We’ve mentioned one bunch of Finns, how about some more? Children Of Bodom, anyone? they finish a mammoth US tour in July and then they’re free. They’ve been touring for a while so they might be ready to stop drinking and go home. Well, go home anyway. Alexi and co could potentially show up at Sonisphere, even if we don’t think it’s that likely.
Defenders Of The Faith was good, wasn’t it? No, it wasn’t. Defenders of the Faith was fucking mind-blowing! We’ve got one half of the co-headliners at Sonisphere with Lamb Of God, how about Dimmu Borgir? They’re doing festivals across Europe, they mentioned to us that they’d like to come back to the UK for a festival performance. Knebworth? Knebworth? Knebworth? Anybody? Knebworth?
It’s worth pointing out that there’s no insider information on this one. It’s just Gill and Beez going through bands that aren’t doing any festivals yet that could potentially be there via trawling bands Myspace tour dates. Are we right on any of these? Is there anyone we’ve not thought of? It’s what that lil’ comments box was made for.
Sonisphere will be headlined by Metallica and Linkin Park and will take place on August 1st – 2nd at Knebworth. Also on the bill will be Nine Inch Nails, Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold, Machine Head, Lamb Of God, Alice In Chains, Mastodon, Anthrax, Airbourne, Thin Lizzy, Killing Joke and The Sword.

who sees MEGADETH playin’ the same festival as !!!!!!/METALLICA\!!!!!!?, seriously guys, i mean i know they are all cool and all with each other nowadays, but still come on lol
if bodom and dimmu are announced i will definitely go.
Kenn, dude i saw Metallica and Megadeth play the sam gig back in the mid 90’s it was awesome. If they could do it then they can fucking do it now.
Oh Jesus, if only you knew who they do have booked….it’s a curveball, I’ll say that much.
YOU FORGOT MANOWAR
@Kenn`
They have actually played shows together before – they played some shows in Europe around 1993 i think with Diamond Head. And that was back then , nowadays theres even less tension it seems. Although they may be miffed at the fact that metallica are headlining and they wont be, but hey I guess if they are special guests then they will be headlining Second stage.
I hope Megadeth aren’t there. I’d have to buy a day ticket if they were.
My Chemical Romance and Placebo. Both did Projekt Revolution with Linkin Park and both have new albums on the way. I’m thinking Saturday will be a slightly softer day and Sunday will be METAL!!!!! I am a genius I think you’ll find.
Do many people actually care about Jane’s Addiction? That would not in any way excite me at all, no interest whatsoever.
blink182? they must be doing something.
Creed are reforming, aren’t they?
am happy with anything but dimmu as they fucking sucked on the defenders tour
Megadeth are headlining the Truck Festival – a folk festival in Oxford which is in July so they could be there…
Whatever Sonisphere announce it ain’t gonna top FNM so nuff said.
my moneys on megadeth, read their website……
Kenn, Metallica and Megadeth played on the same bill at Milton Keynes Bowl in 1993.
Les Claypool, is that too much to ask for?
I don’t think Dimmu would play?
G N R as Metallica’s special guests!!!!!!
If its guns n roses I will shoot myself. I’m hoping for some Rush
Man Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax, Testament….If they got Slayer it would be clash of the fucking titans…
Can you imagine? It would sell out instantly
Apparently it’s primal scream……
