Top Ten Best/Worst Reformations

On the eve we find out that Blink 182 are reforming, we asked the Hammer office: “If you could see any band who’ve broken up one more time, who would it be? And which bands have reformed when they should have let sleeping dogs lie?”

Alexander Milas, Editor
Reformations I’d most like to see:
Faith No More – just because.
Sepultura with Max and Iggor – Reform with the Chaos AD lineup, get Derrick along do some of the vocals, and tour the set from ‘Under A Pale Gray Sky’. Please.
Rainbow – Come back to us Ritchie. All will be forgiven. We’ll be sure Candace gets a laminate.
Emperor – Ok, in fairness, they already reformed, albeit briefly. Again, again!
Soundgarden – ‘Jesus Christ Pose’ anyone? And what the hell is Kim Thayil up to anyway, and would he please knock some artistic sense into Chris?

Worst reformations that have happened:
Motley Crue – Ok, seeing Wild Side at Rock Am Ring is a moment of joy that will forever be frozen in my memory. Their show at Wembley Arena made me feel violent toward myself and others.
Deep Purple – Does anyone want to watch Ian Gillen hopping barefoot over to his lyrics book? Get to work Glenn.
Guns N Roses – In fairness, it was just Axl and friends, but, politely speaking, these shows were a mind-raping crime against humanity.
Tigertailz – Just no.
Thin Lizzy – The point being…?

I’m all for band’s reforming, but there’s gotta be ground rules applied.
They must have all original band members involved & even more importantly …alive!

If a key member of a band is dead, then may they, & their band’s legacy, forever rest in peace.

I, like alot of other people, got rather excited a few years ago when Alice In Chains announced that they were reforming. Only to be ultimately disapponted when met by a chap who, although had the identical voice of Layne Staley, had zero of the great man’s charisma.

& that’s just the point, It’s things like that, that made these bands so great & unique first time round. The winning combo.

I couldn’t care less how amazingly talented any of these replacement singers, or other musicians, are…It’s NOT the same band. & the remaining members should be lined up & shot for even thinking about dragging their old band’s name through the dirt, so they can earn themselves some extra (dirty) cash.

Rivers Edge
Creaming Jesus
Harpies
Strapping Young Lad

In addition to that. may I quote Buddyhead..

“…when 1 or 2 dudes get the reunion itch cos they’re broke, tired of listening to their shitty kids fight all day, and their fat wives nag them constantly, so they wanna “give it a go” again, but some of the other members aren’t down cuz they think your shitty reunion tour idea is retarded…or even worse, theyre dead… then it’s NOT A REUNION.
START A NEW BAND! You’ll still be members of said band forever, and you’re not shitting on the legacy.”

Michael Wilson

I would love to see Deep Purple mk3 – the Coverdale and Hughes era reform, that would be the best reformation ever!

Groovehound

Hahahaha. All these joke reunions that really don’t need to happen (this includes Zeppelin, as it wasn’t Zeppelin, drummer’s DNA notwithstanding). Thank God it hasn’t got as ridiculous as someone trying to resurrect the Jimi Hendrix Experience now that the last one has died. (RIP Mitch Mitchell et. al).

Bands Id Like To See Reform:

Sepultura with Max and Iggor
Faith No More
Limp Bizkit with Wes
The Misfits with Glen Danzig
Black Flag Come on Henry Rollins
Anthrax Original Lineup
System Of A Down
A Perfect Circle
Erase The Grey
Refused

Worst Reforms:

Guns And Roses
Smashing Pumpkins
Led Zeppelin
Stone Temple Pilots
Rage Against The Machine
Motley Crue

Megadeth – Rust In Peace/Countdown era
White Zombie
Guns n Roses
Korn – Debut era
Sepultura – Chaos AD/Roots era

Reunions i’d most like to see:

- Deep Purple MkII (Okay, so they’re basically 3 out of 5 now, but i miss blackmore and lord, damnit! Would’ve been cool to have Rod Evans back on vocals as well.)
- Stonegard
- Emperor
- Uriah Heep (original line-up)
- Soundgarden (indeed!)
- The Haunted w/Marco Aro on vocals

Reunion no-no’s:
- Guns ‘n’ Roses (’cause it’s not Guns ‘n’ Roses)
- Led Zeppelin (keep your hands off my money!)
- Slade (My ears are bleeding)
- Blink 182 (why? just… why?!)
- Limp Bizkit (no thank you! the only artist in this band luckily had the brains to quit).
- Fear Factory (They did a U2 cover!)

Chris Ward

Ones to see:

Iron Maiden with Paul Di’Anno (just for a one-off ‘cos I never saw that line-up)
The Misfits (Jerry, Doyle and Danzig)
Fear Factory (with Dino otherwise there is no point)
Sepultura (the one we all want to see)
Anthrax (with John Bush)
White Zombie (just how good were they?)

Ones not to see:

Sex Pistols (just stop – right now)
Thin Lizzy (no it isn’t)

Queen (again, see Thin Lizzy)

Reunions i want to see:

Rainbow (with dio)
Black Sabbath (original band)
System of a Down
Slayer

Hey Alexander Milas… before you belittle GillAn maybe you should learn how to spell his name. Obviously you havn’t seen him enough to judge or maybe you just prefer singers like Mick Jegger, Robert Plent and John Linen.
